God’s Probable Existence: Argument from Design

The prominent question of the centuries, “Does God exist?” has been a widely debated topic all around the world. Throughout Christian history, many skeptics have attacked the foundation of Christian faith. Many of them declared publicly to uproot the faith foundation led by Jesus. It has not been so long since Richard Dawkins, evolutionary biologist and professor at Oxford University, labeled belief in God a delusion and religion a virus in his book The God Delusion. In addition, Dawkins categorized all religions as the root of all evil in his documentary entitled “The Root of All Evil.” Many people have blindly believed his book and put the faith of all believers in jeopardy.

Scientists adhere to the evolution theory of Darwinism for ground support to establish the creation of an organism through a microorganism. The widely held Big Bang theory, as per their belief of the creation of the universe, is a random incident that took place by chance. And the evolution theory is the base and foundation of atheism, where everything, including human beings, came to exist from the chemical reaction of “primordial soup” and melting rock after the Big Bang. Therefore, there is not any creator or designer of this universe and humankind.

In response to those cynics who question whether there is a God or not, the question goes back to creation. Many historians, philosophers, theologians, and archeologists have brought forth the probabilities, not possibilities, of the existence of God. Apologists who emphasize factual evidence have presented Christianity as a factual belief system. The fact is based on the support or verification of evidence. William Paley’s analogy of the watchmaker refers to the designer of the universe—nature, cosmos, animals, plants, and human beings. Paley points to the existence of God and concludes that “God is one, personal, intelligent, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, eternal, self-existent, spiritual, and good” (Boa & Bowman Jr. 140-141). Having said this, we can believe God’s active role and his existence in creation and history behind the perfect creation of human beings, the sun, stars, planets, and galaxies in proper position in the sky.

Similarly, other apologists like John Locke, Thomas Sherlock, Joseph Butler, James Orr, Clark H. Pinnock, and John Warwick Montgomery also present many probabilities as evidence to support Christian theism as a whole. Furthermore, the authenticity of the historical Jesus, the empty tomb, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ is strong evidence supporting the deity of Jesus. Next, Butler argues that the historical fulfillment of prophecies is also the major evidence for the truth of Christianity. Montgomery challenges atheists to discount the historical Jesus, his resurrection, the authenticity, and the competency of the New Testament documents. Thus, all of these apologists have reasoned for the existence of God by unfolding his intelligent creation, design, scientific authenticity of the historical text, and archeological sites.

In the present freedom of speech world, we can present the fact of the existence of God to unbelievers by unfolding the historical Jesus. All the above presented evidence and cases support the divinity of Jesus Christ. And today’s generation wants a verdict for believing anything. The hypotheses of evolution theory, which go back to infinity, have been the proven facts for the students. In his context, any apologist should be prepared to reason for what he believes and why he believes it.

I would like to conduct a roundtable on the existence of God among the young generation in the church as well as atheists in the community. Our new generation is tending to be more vulnerable to refuting Christian theism due to counterattacks from atheism. Atheists are using articles, journals, books, movies, and websites as weapons to condemn Christianity and falsify the biblical account of God. In defense of Christian faith, I would present the probabilities of the existence of God by giving the biblical truth based on facts.

I would ask my listeners to contemplate their physical complexities. I wonder if human beings are the cause of random chance and why our head has eight different parts of bones rather than being like a grapefruit! The random chance theory both amuses and astonishes me, especially when I consider why my nose is positioned between my two eyes, just like another person’s. My mind-blowing question is why I am not evolving now! I wish I could evolve and fly as an albatross.

I do not see any chance of the Random Chance theory in the cosmos. Robin Collins, a philosopher, and Lee Strobel, a journalist, also say that if the fine-tuning or force of gravity is moved a space of a pea, there will be no life in the universe. All the planets are aligned in their orbits. They are a particular distance far away from the sun and from each other. Is it possible that the planets lined up exactly as required to coincide with the Big Bang in the universe?

Therefore, these arguments establish the notion of the existence of God and his active role in creation. Observing the wonders of the world and experiencing our own bodies leads us to the conclusion that there is a being, invisible to our eyes, actively involved in the everyday world. Hence, the probability of God cannot be denied.
