Scripture Reading: John 1:6-8

John 1:6-8  (MLT)

᾿Εγένετο ἄνθρωπος ἀπεσταλμένος παρὰ Θεοῦ, ὄνομα αὐτῷ ᾿Ιωάννης·

A man came, having been sent from God, name to him John;

οὗτος ἦλθεν εἰς μαρτυρίαν, ἵνα μαρτυρήσῃ περὶ τοῦ φωτός, ἵνα πάντες πιστεύσωσιν δι᾿ αὐτοῦ. 

he came as a witness, in order that he might witness (testify) about the Light, so that all [might] believe through him.

οὐκ ἦν ἐκεῖνος τὸ φῶς, ἀλλ᾿ ἵνα μαρτυρήσῃ περὶ τοῦ φωτός.

He was not the Light (It was not he was the Light), but in order that he might testify concerning the Light.
