Course Description

This course is an in-depth exploration of New Testament theology with a focus on the Reformed theological perspective. Students will engage with key methodologies, theological principles, and the major theological themes found in the New Testament books. The course aims to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the theological developments within the New Testament and their relevance to contemporary Christian living.

Learning Goals

By the end of the course, students are expected to:

  1. Demonstrate a Thorough Understanding:
    • Display a comprehensive understanding of key theological themes in the New Testament.
  2. Apply Methodological Approaches:
    • Apply various methodological approaches to the study of New Testament theology.
  3. Evaluate Reformed Theological Perspectives:
    • Critically evaluate and articulate Reformed theological perspectives within the New Testament context.
  4. Integrate Theological Reflection:
    • Integrate theological reflection into contemporary issues and challenges faced by the Church.
  5. Articulate Ethical Implications:
    • Articulate the ethical implications of New Testament theology in addressing social and moral challenges.

Class Expectations

  1. Attendance:
    • Regular attendance is expected.

    • Come to class having completed assigned readings and assignments.

Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism is a serious academic offense. Any work submitted that is not the student’s own must be properly cited. Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, the use of someone else’s words, ideas, or work without proper acknowledgment. Consequences for plagiarism may include grade penalties, academic probation, or expulsion. Students are encouraged to seek guidance on proper citation and referencing.

  • Weekly Assignments: 30%
  • Midterm Exam: 20%
  • Final Exam: 30%
  • Final Project/Paper: 10%

Grading Scale

  • A: 90-100%
  • B: 80-89%
  • C: 70-79%
  • D: 60-69%
  • F: Below 60%

Instructor office hours are available for additional support and clarification. Students are encouraged to utilize office hours for questions related to the course material, assignments, or any academic concerns.

Satya Maharjan, Th.M
Instructor

Satya is a professor of New Testament Theology at a Reformed & Presbyterian seminary. He holds a Master of Theology (Th.M) specializing in the New Testament and a Master of Theological Studies (MTS) from Calvin Theological Seminary. He earned his Bachelor’s in Science with a dual major in Bible and Theology and Pre-seminary from Kuyper College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

With his academic credentials and years of experience, he is confident in providing excellent instruction to his students. In addition to his academic work, he leads as a highly effective Lead Pastor at Encounter Church. He has three wonderful children together with his wife.
